Mike Sexton Wins His First WPT Title

20 November, 2016 | 15:03 от Aleksandra

Hall of Famer and 15-year commentator for the Tour wins 2016 World Poker Tour Montreal Main Event

Sexton, alongside co-commentator Vince Van Patten, has been the voice of the WPT since its start fifteen years ago. WPT Raw Deal host Tony Dunst filled in for Sexton at the commentary booth while he played his way to the title.

This was his third final table on the tour that proved to be the lucky one. Sexton topped a field of 648 entries to win the 2016 WPT Montreal $3,850 CAD no-limit hold’em main event.

The 69-year-old poker pro is now amongst the WPT champions.

Mike Sexton outlasted Benny Chen in the final battle. Heads-up play began with Chen holding the chip lead, but Sexton was able to change this. However, 157 hands later with blinds of 300K/600K/75K, Chen moved all-in for 8,150,000 from the button with KcJd. Sexton snap-called and flipped up QhQc.

Sexton flopped a top set and Chen wasn’t able to improve on the turn or the river and had to settle with his runner-up position for $213,500.

Final results:

  1. Mike Sexton – $317,896
  2. Benny Chen – $213,515
  3. Nadir Lalji – $136,806
  4. Ilan Boujenah – $99,067
  5. Ema Zajmovic – $76,127
  6. Jake Schwartz – $61,000
  7. Samuel Gagnon – $50,590
  8. Antonin Duda – $40,343
  9. Terry Schumacher – $30,254
