Michael Phelps Ready to Play Poker

17 August, 2016 | 13:14 от Aleksandra

It is official, the Olympic career of Michael Phelps is over, and now we are wondering if he would turn his attention to poker

He had already done that, even during Rio games.

In an interview, Phelps admitted that he played Open Face Chinese on his phone prior to his 200-meter butterfly semi-final meeting with Chad le Clos.

“Texting sometimes. I was playing Pineapple, it’s a card game, and I was changing music,” said Phelps. The app is popular among some professional poker players like Shaun Deeb, Phil Hellmuth, and Jason Mercier.

Eventually, Phelps finished second in the semi-final and won his 20th career gold medal, while Chad le Clos didn’t get it to the podium.

During 2008 Olympic games in Beijing, Phelps said in an interview that he wants to play ion poker’s biggest stage.

“I think it would be cool to play in the World Series of Poker,” he said. “My game is a little off right now, so I’ll have to start improving it a little bit. But I think that would be cool, and it would be cool to meet some of those poker guys.”

His first live tournament cash came in October 2008, when he was able to make the final table of a $1,500 buy-in WSOP Circuit event.

Later on, in January 2013, he entered the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Main Even, that was his first $10,000 buy-in poker tournament. Later that summer he played his first WSOP event – a $5,000 buy-in No Limit Hold’em event. He couldn’t cash in either event.

Michael Phelps has a number of poker friends, including his former roommate Jeff Gross and Antonio Esfandiari.
