12 July, 2016 | 12:44 от Aleksandra

A record number of players played at the WSOP $10,000 buy-in Main Event

Registration has now closed. After the record number of players in Day 1C (4,240), the total field size for the Main Event grew to 6,737.

The prize pool is over $63 million, and the first-place prize is $8,000,000. A total of 1,011 players will cash in the event, with a minimum of $15,000.

This is the biggest player field since 2011 when 6,865 players took their place at the tables.

Over 5,000 players are still alive after the first three Day 1s. Some of the notable players who survived the first day include Johnny Chan, Chris Ferguson, Justin Bonomo, Antonio Esfandiari, Daniel Negreanu, Phil Hellmuth and Phil Ivey.

Some of the eliminated players from the Main Event include Jason Mercier, Brian Hastings, Talal Shakerchi, TJ Cloutier, Jean-Robert Bellande, Andy Bloch and many more.

The survivors from Day 1A and 1B will come back on Tuesday at 11:00 p.m. to play Day 2. The survivors from Day 1C will return on Wednesday at 11:00 p.m.

Phil Ivey returns to the WSOP

Phil Ivey

Neither the $111,111 One Drop or $50,000 Players Championship could tempt Phil Ivey, so his presence at the 2016 WSOP wasn’t guaranteed.

Ivey is one of the most famous poker players in the world and 10-time bracelet winner. As Tiger Woods of poker took his seat in Day 1C a small group of fans and spectators started to grow.
